tär, William Anderson's war damage losses in Hong Kong.
I enclose a copy of a statement made in the House on the 26th pri1,1948, from which you will ace that the Government of Hong kong recommended that no compensation should be paid for general war da nge losces. I regret, therefore, that no exspurusation can be paid from Hong Kong Gɔverent Punds in res ect of tr. Anderson's business losses.
There is, in this country, the xtended Par Bastern Frivate hattels Lobede (ar ange), financed by His Majesty's Goverment and administered by the Board of Trade, under which limited grenta cay be aca to United Mingiom mætionals who have returned permanently to this country in Pespect of the lose of
1080 private chattels; this chong is utlined in the enclosed state ent.
e you will ece, it doce not cover
losses of cash, securities, ¡rofit or general consequential loss.
Aurthermore, if, as Bocas probable, Br.anderson lart Hong Kong at the time of his retirerent in 1936 arxi dis osed of his private chattels or took them with his, I fear he would not be eligible for any pay unt at all under the theme.
For this reason I should be reluctant to rice lir. Anderson's hopes unduly by asking him to submit an application; but if, fra: your knowledge of the circumstances, you think it 1ght be worthwhile, rerhaps
